THE BENEFIT FUND’S COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COLLECTION OF EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTIONS, ADMINISTERING THE CAFETERIA BENEFIT (VACATION & DEPENDENT CARE PAYMENTS), RECIPROCAL HOURS, AND ISSUING WORK RECORD REPORTS.

VACATION PAYMENTS

The Vacation Benefit is a portion of the “Cafeteria Benefit” and is an employer paid contribution for your work hours. Payments are taxed and directly deposited into the bank account of record with the Fund office on a quarterly basis. If no direct deposit information is provided, an account will be created for you at the Union Building Trades Federal Credit Union. This money is taxed unless you elect to use it as a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

DEPENDENT CARE

You have the option to elect your “Cafeteria Benefit” contributions to a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA). This is a tax-free benefit used to help offset annual child care expenses. You can elect Dependent Care FSA benefits during the annual election period in the month of December. You must complete the Dependent Care Election Form to allocate part or all of your Vacation Benefit to the Dependent Care FSA and return it to the Fund Office by the annual deadline of December 31st.

RECIPROCAL HOURS

Are you working out of area? When you are working under another jurisdiction’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, your employer most likely submitted your Fringe Benefit Contributions to that Jurisdiction’s Benefit Fund (i.e. New Jersey, New York, Baltimore, or Washington D.C.). In order to have your contributions at the Outside Fund transferred back to your Home Fund, you will need to complete a Reciprocal Form for each outside jurisdiction, and submit it to the Carpenters Benefit Fund of Philadelphia (you only need to complete one Reciprocal Form for each outside jurisdiction you worked in). To fill out a Reciprocal Form online, please visit www.carpenters.fund or download a copy to print for mailing purposes.

WORK RECORD REPORTS

It is important to check your hours regularly for any discrepancies. One way the Collections Department helps you keep track of what has been reported on your behalf is by mailing quarterly Work Record Reports. You can also view your reported work hours in real-time by clicking “Work History” on the members.carpenters.fund homepage. If you find an error in reported hours, you can also submit a “Request Hours Discrepancies” form online at members.carpenters.fund or contact the Collections Department. Please note: Your “Vacation Plan” contributions will not be reciprocated to your Home Fund. You will need to contact the Outside Fund to collect that money (if applicable).
