You are eligible for a Vacation Benefit if:

1. The collectively bargained benefit package for your work has a vacation benefit contribution or the Board allocates a portion of the Health & Welfare contribution for your work to a Vacation Benefit; or
2. Your employer, pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement, is required to deduct vacation benefits from your pay and send them to the Fund Office on your behalf.

Depending on the Collectively Bargained Agreement you work under, your Vacation Benefit will be calculated in one of these two ways:

1. If your Vacation Benefit contribution is a gross payment to the Plan before taxes, your payment will be the amount of the contributions received by the Plan on your behalf reduced by any withholding or employment taxes which the Plan is required to pay or to withhold, directly or as an agent of the Employers.
2. If your Vacation Benefit is funded by the vacation deduction from your pay and sent by employers to the Plan at the rate as negotiated and set in Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Vacation Benefit contribution is a payment to the Plan after taxes and any payment will be tax free and equal to the amount remitted to the Plan on your behalf.

Please note that Vacation Benefits are not insured and will be paid solely based on the Vacation Contributions paid to the Plan. Your employer may fail to remit monies deducted from your pay due to financial troubles, bankruptcy or other reasons. It is your responsibility to retain payroll documents supplied by your employers to verify your Vacation Benefit contributions. If there is a discrepancy in the amount of your Vacation Benefit account, it is your responsibility to supply the Fund Office with documentation to allow collection of any additional amounts due from your employer.

You do not need to apply for a Vacation Benefit. Vacation Benefit will be paid automatically to eligible Employees. Payments will be electronically deposited into a financial institution of your choosing or your account at the Union Building Trades Federal Credit Union on a monthly basis.

If no financial institution or Union Building Trades Federal Credit Union account is on file, a check will be mailed out in January each year to the employee’s address on file.

The Fund Office expects to issue payments around the 15th of each Vacation Payment Date month, but can adjust the actual payment date to account for holidays and other banking or operational issues.

Please note, if an Annual Enrollment/COB Form is not returned by the specified due date each Benefit Year, your Vacation check will be put “on hold” until a Form is received.

You will forfeit your right to receive all or any portion of your vacation account that remains unclaimed for thirty-six (36) consecutive calendar months from the applicable distribution date. Forfeited benefits will be used by the Trustees, in their sole and absolute discretion, for the purpose of offsetting administrative expenses or providing benefits to Plan participants.
